Joel and Nathan Anderson

of Anderson Design Group

Quick Review

If you’ve followed us for long, you’ve probably seen us post about the travel posters we collect depicting places we’ve been. Just a few weeks ago, we wrote on the blog about how we find inspiration for our home in our travels. The vast majority of our travel prints come from a local Nashville business that we love – Anderson Design Group. They are a family business, local to Nashville, and have a team mentality. With over 1800 posters, calendars, books, postcards, and more, Anderson Design Group truly makes beautiful art, and we loved having a conversation with them about their business!

Design Basics Series – Art

Quick Review

This is the final installment of our Design Basics Series, and it’s one of our favorite topics – ART! We love art and have collected some vintage art over the years that we absolutely love. Chandler says it in the episode, but art really is one of the easiest ways to express who you are and who your family is in your home. And in conjunction with this episode, we have some exciting news – we are launching an online store! We hope to add products over time, but we are starting with, you guessed it, art! Specifically, digital art prints. We are offering six beautiful vintage digital art prints to begin with that we are so excited about. Be sure to check them out at The Peach and Pine Collection.

17:50 – If you’re hanging art that isn’t connected to a piece of furniture, you want the art centered around eye level (specifically  57” – 60” off the floor)

19:23 – Try not to have the top of any art piece above the window or door trim in the room.

22:35 – Where to find art

Design Basics Series – Accessories

Quick Review

Today we’re talking about something that most anyone who is into interior design loves to talk about – accessories! Accessories are a big part of what makes YOUR home feel like YOUR style. Whether that’s books, containers, art, greenery, or fun decorative objects, accessories make a huge statement in your home. As usual, Chandler shares a few of her “rules of thumb” about accessories on this week’s episode.

Timestamps

01:45 – Dad Joke of the Week

03:06 – Introducing Accessories – “decorative or functional items that add the finishing touches to a chosen home’s style.”

5 categories of accessories we always keep around for styling a home.

05:39 – Books – take the book jackets off and you’ll find that many books are BEAUTIFUL to display as an accessory.

08:04 – Containers – vases, boxes, jugs, etc.

10:47 – Art

One of my favorite uses of art – having a small art piece that leans up against the all on the shelf. It doesn’t have to be framed, just lean it up to take up some height and give visual interest.

12:02 – Greenery and Botanicals

Check out our favorite faux plants that look real

13:33 – Fun Decorative Objects

Design Basics Series – Furniture

Quick Review

This is the third episode in our Design Basics Series, and today we are talking about furniture! Like most people, we had a shoestring budget when we were just out of college and freshly married. We bought plenty of furniture that was function over form and super cheap, but we found that those things really aren’t built to last. As we’ve grown our business and worked with talented carpenters/woodworkers like Kyle Levy of Broken Compass Woodworking (remember episode 8?), our appreciation for the fine craftsmanship of quality furniture has really grown. There is a time and a place for places to invest in quality and places where you might not want to. It’s important to think of your furniture as an investment rather than just an expense. We hope that this episode helps you think through your own home and how you can best invest in pieces that will last.

Timestamps

02:52 – Dad Joke of the Week

04:00 – Introducing Furniture

04:52 – The evolution of our appreciation for quality, well-made furniture. Growing up, our parents had quality and beautiful furniture, but we didn’t really understand the difference between quality-made furniture and cheap furniture.

06:42 – Good, Fast Cheap – Everybody wants all three, but you can usually only pick two when it comes to furniture.

8:40 – A couple of things that shifted our perspective on the value of quality furniture.

  • (1) Working with quality woodworkers like Kyle Levy at Broken Compass Woodworking

  • (2) Going to High Point Market

“If you get a good piece of quality furniture, it can truly last a lifetime.”

12:51 – There is a time and a place for places to invest in quality and places where you might not want to. It’s important to think of your furniture as an investment rather than just an expense.

14:45 – 8 questions we recommend you ask yourself when you’re buying new furniture.

15:00 – How long do you want to keep this?

15:35 – Where is it made?

16:28 – How is it made?

17:28 – What are the materials used to build?

You really just need to do your research so you know what you’re getting when you’re purchasing furniture – especially with the materials.

21:32 – How is the customer service of the company?

Quality customer service generally indicates quality products.

24:00 – Will it fit correctly into my space?

Measure twice, buy once.

25:45 – Is new really the best way to go, or should I be looking for something that’s used or antique?

27:25 – What about something custom?

29:25 – Things We’re Loving

  • Jeremy – The gallery wall above my desk (be sure to check out my post about it!)

  • Chandler – Homemade pizza on the grill

Design Basics Series – Paint Colors

Quick Review

This is the second episode of our Design Basics Series where we are talking about the basics of designing your home. Last week we tackled lighting. This week we are tackling picking paint colors and how to pick paint colors! There’s a lot that goes into picking paint colors for your home, and we’ve done our best to compile a list of Do’s and Don’ts for you to think about while thinking through paint colors.

Thursday, May 7 – LIVE Q&A

As part of the design basics series, we’ll also be doing a LIVE episode that is a Q&A where we get to answer YOUR questions about design basics. This is happening on Thursday, May 7 at 7:30pm Central Time. You’ll be able to find it on our Facebook page or on IG Live. To submit a question, DM us on Instagram or shoot us an email to team@peachandpinehome.com.

Instagram and Facebook Live

4:15 – Dad Joke of the week

06:08 – Today we are talking about one of the questions we get asked most frequently – how to pick paint colors for your home.

The DON’Ts and DOs of paint colors

7:22 – DON’T pick a paint color solely off what you see online, but DO use online inspiration as a starting point to make a list of options.

11:10 – DON’T only look at the main concentrated color within a color, but DO consider the undertones in a color.

The best way to tell undertones is to compare to the purest version of that color

16:53 – DON’T look at paint colors in isolation, but DO consider the color wheel.

It’s important to test the colors in your house because there are factors that affect how the color looks in your home.

22:51 – DON’T automatically go for the most concentrated version of that color, but DO consider a more muted version of that color.

24:57 – DON’T ignore your trim color, but DO consider repainting your trim if necessary

25:36 – DON’T start painting just because you like the swatch, but DO paint a swatch on every wall you plan to paint so you see how it reacts in different times of day, weather, lighting, etc.

27:07 – DON’T feel restricted to only a certain brand or concentration of your color, but DO know what options you have.

31:06 – DON’T paint a different color in every room of your house, but DO create some consistency and flow throughout your home.

32:22 – DON’T think that a paint color will save you from a really dark room, but DO consider your lighting and listen to last week’s episode.

35:19 – Things We’re Loving

  • Jeremy: Dresser Lamp

  • Chandler: Romabio Paints Limewash

Things We’re Loving

Chandler - I’m loving our limewashed fireplace. You can check out the videos on our IG Stories, but we are so happy with the way it turned out!
