I’m not sure if I’m the only one, but it seems like every day, during this period of social distancing, I hear someone say something like “now is a great time for X Y or Z.” It’s as if we are expected to have MORE time during quarantine to accomplish things instead of doing things like continuing to run our businesses, work, take care of our kids (or even homeschool), etc. I’ve definitely felt the pull to “accomplish more,” and I feel like I’m not the only one.
So what do we do with this? I certainly don’t have all the answers, but I think it’s important to remember that right now, just accomplishing the little things is OK. If you have the time and energy to devote to a million extra projects right now, that’s great! But if all you can do is hold your family together and try to figure it out day by day, that’s more than enough. We all need to have a little extra grace for ourselves right now.
If you’re feeling the itch to accomplish something, finish something small and let it remind you that right now, the little things are enough. For me, today, it was setting up this vignette on our dresser in our master bedroom. It’s not much, but it’s enough for today. And a little corner that is styled and “finished” just gives me a little boost and makes me smile.
You don’t have to change the world or change your whole house. Just start small. Sometimes the little things feel like big things.
